● 1/2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
● 1 & 1/2 Tsp Brown Food Dye (Approximately 125 - 150 drops)
● The Marshmallow Mixture Calls For
● 1 Cup Sugar
● 1 Packet of Powdered Gelatin
● 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
● 1/3 Cup Water
● Additional 1/4 Cup Water
● 1 Piping Bag
● 1/2 Diameter Piping Tip
● The Eye and Smile Mixture Calls For
● 40 Miniature Marshmallows
● 1/4 Tsp Brown Food Dye
● Candy Glue
Creating the Brown Sugar Coating:
In a large, sealable Ziploc bag combine the 1 cup granulated sugar with the 1 & 1/2 tablespoon of brown food dye. Once you have securely sealed the Ziplock bag it will be time to thoroughly massage the sugar and dye in one fluid and smooth brown mixture. It should take approximately five minutes to complete the mixture.
It is now time to transfer the dyed sugar from its Ziploc bag onto a baking sheet to air dry. Please allow around ten minutes for this process to take place.
After the sugar mixture has been thoroughly air dried it will be time to combine it with the cocoa powder for a sweeter flavoring. It is easiest to place the dyed sugar and cocoa powder into a sealable mason jar to shake vigorously until it has been well combined.
Spread the well combined mixture of dyed sugar and cocoa powder onto a baking sheet. Make sure to pour the mixture evenly across the sheet. Set this sheet aside for later usage.
Creating the Marshmallow Mixture:
Utilize a stand mixer with its whisk attachment to create the Marshmallow mixture. Begin by combining the mixing bowl with the 1/3 cup of water and packet of powdered gelatin. Allow the mixture to soften for approximately ten minutes.
As the gelatin mixes within the water, simultaneously pour the 1 cup of sugar and additional 1/4 cup of water into a medium saucepan on medium heat. You will cook this mixture until the sugar has completely dissolved. A pro tip is to utilize a candy thermometer and remove the mixture once it reaches 235 degrees Fahrenheit.
Combine the mixed gelatin with the dissolved sugar. Stir this new mixture gently until it reached a smooth consistency free of any lumps or bumps.
It is now time to add in the 1 tsp of vanilla extract into the mixture and return the combined ingredients to the stand mixer’s bowl. Mix these combined ingredients on medium to high speed until the mixture is fluffy and light creating Marshmallow. This process should take approximately nine minutes to complete.
Transfer your newly fluffed Marshmallow with a spatial into a piping bag equipped with a 1/2 diameter tip.
It is now time to pipe your marshmallow mixture directly onto your sheet pan sugar mixture. To create the Poop emoji shape make a two inch diameter based followed by a tight spiral upwards into a coiled poo shape. The traditional emoji poop icon has four levels to it, so you may want to aim for that many as well. If you are having trouble getting your marshmallow mixture to hold its shape - just let the marshmallow mixture cool for a minute or two and then continue piping your poop.
While your marshmallow poops are still tacky you will want to dust each poo with the dyed brown sugar concoction. Do not be afraid to pick up your poop marshmallow and dredge it in the dyed sugar topping left on your baking sheet. The poop marshmallows will hold their shape.
Adding the Eyes and Smile:
Cut slices of approximately half of your 40 mini marshmallows in half with a sharp knife. Once all mallows have been cut you will want to affix each marshmallow eye set to one marshmallow poop utilizing the candy glue. The smiles will work in the same manner except instead of cutting the remaining mini marshmallows in half, you will cut them lengthwise creating a semi circle. Apply each semicircle smile to each poop marshmallow with the candy glue as well.
Last but certainly not least, create pupils in the middle of your white marshmallow eyes with a little of the brown food dye you utilized to brown the outer sugar coating. A toothpick is a great tool to use when dotting the brown dye onto the eyes as it will keep each pupil small and circular.
Woolah! Once each Poop Peep has fully cooled they will be ready to serve!
